Chris Hayes (Christopher Loffredo Hayes) is an American journalist, political commentator, anchor, author, and current host of the show All In with Chris Hayes. Hayes also serves as hosts a weekly MSNBC podcast, Why Is This Happening? and he is an editor-at-large of The Nation magazine. Hayes previously hosted the weekend talk show “Up w/ Chris Hayes,” which debuted in 2011.
Chris was a frequent substitute host for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” before joining MSNBC as an anchor. Hayes began contributing to MSNBC in 2010 and has been a member of The Nation since 2007.

Chris was born to his father, Roger, and mother, Gerl Hayes in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. He has two brothers. His mother is of Italian ancestry, while his father is Irish Catholic. While attending a Jesuit seminary in New York, his father went to the Bronx and began community organizing.
His father was an associate commissioner for the NYC Department of Health who spent several years managing community organizing at the Community Service Society of New York.
