Micheal Gargiulo (Full names Michael Louis Gargiulo) is an American Emmy award-winning journalist and television news anchor. Currently, he serves as a co-anchor of Today in New York at WNBC (News 4 New York), NBC’s flagship station. Gargiulo has anchored Today in New York along with Darlene Rodriguez since 2008. He has been embedded with United States military units in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and the Persian Gulf. Before joining WNBC in July of 2006, he anchored the morning newscast on WTTG, a Fox-owned station in Washington, for six years. 

Garguilo has covered many major news events as a reporter for WNBC, including Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United States, the commissioning of the USS New York, President Barack Obama’s visit to Ground Zero after Osama bin Laden’s death, Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, the New York Giants’ ticker-tape parade, the 2012 Empire State Building shooting, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and Ed Koch’s death. He went to eastern Afghanistan in 2014 to cover the last deployment of a unit of the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division.

Gargiulo landed his first job as host of the local edition of the syndicated show PM Magazine at WSAZ, NBC’s affiliate in Charleston, West Virginia in 1984. He later worked for WYOU, a CBS station in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as a reporter and anchor. In the early 1990s, he worked as a reporter for WLKY in Louisville, Kentucky. He worked as a reporter and anchor for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis from 1993 to 1997. From 1997 to 2000, he worked as a Washington, D.C. correspondent for Hearst-Argyle Television.

Gargiulo’s anchoring was a key component of NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage, which received the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award in January 2021 for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real-time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and thorough reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.”

The duPont has long been regarded as the broadcast, documentary, and online equivalent of Columbia University’s Pulitzer Prize. He began his career at WSAZ-TV in Huntington, West Virginia, and afterward worked at WYOU in Scranton, WLKY in Louisville, KSTP in Minneapolis, Hearst Argyle Washington Bureau, and WTTG in Washington before returning to New York in 2006 to work at WNBC.
